How are precast concrete products made?

Here at Coote engineering, we design and manufacture the machines that create precast concrete products, so who better to explain the process.

Precast concrete products are products in which the concrete has been poured in to a mould prior to entering the construction site. This benefits the construction process as it can be difficult to manoeuvre or create the right shapes and sizes by pouring the concrete on site.

How are precast concrete products made?

Precast concrete products are made through pouring either WetCast or DryCast concrete into moulds which are then hardened are removed to be dispatched. These moulds could be from concrete posts, slabs or even slats for animal housing.

There are a range of different machines which can make a variety of different products. With different products, there are different production processes. A great example of this is the precast hollowcore machine. With hollowcore, there are several large machine components that are necessary to produce those specific products. The same goes for almost all precast products however the process overall is the same, products that have been designed and manufactured off site, and transported to their required destination.

Benefits of precast over on site pouring

On site pouring which also has its benefits has been increasingly less popular over the last decade with the precast industry growing. Construction companies and engineers have become more aware of the benefits that come with producing concrete products off site. These products might be things like walls, flooring, Windowsills, chimneys, pillars and much more. Not only has producing these become easier but it has become extremely efficient. Through specialised machines, the mass production of concrete products speeds up the construction process and reduces costs for the construction industry who are able to purchase products at a cheaper rate.
